📄 How many papers are there?

For Route B, you’ll sit three exam papers in total. Each one focuses on a different part of the course so it’s important to know exactly what’s coming.

📚 Paper 1: Foundational Catholic Theology

  • Duration: 1 hour 30 mins


  • 🏆Marks: 120 (37.5% of the total grade) + 6 for SPaG


  • 📌Content: This paper explores origins and meaning + good and evil.


  • Question types:  A mix of short answer and longer essay style questions (worth up to 15 marks).

  • A questions - Give the meaning of a key word or concept (2 marks)

  • B questions - Describe a belief, practice or teaching (5 marks)

  • C questions - Explain two different beliefs or viewpoints from either Catholic Christianity and Judaism or two Christian traditions, about a topic (8 marks)

  • D questions - Respond to a statement by weighing up different views (15 marks)

Eduqas GCSE Religious Studies Route B - Paper 2


✝️ Paper 2: Applied Catholic Theology

  • Duration: 1 hour 30 mins


  • 🏆Marks: 120 (37.5% of the total grade) + 6 for SPaG


  • 📌Content: This covers life and death + sin and forgiveness.


  • Question types: Same structure as Paper 1 – short knowledge checks, medium explanation questions, and longer evaluative essays. You’ll need to show clear Catholic teachings and different viewpoints.

  • A questions - Give the meaning of a key word or concept (2 marks)

  • B questions - Describe a belief, practice or teaching (5 marks)

  • C questions - Explain Catholic responses and viewpoints towards a belief, practice or teaching (8 marks)

  • D questions - Respond to a statement by weighing up different views (15 marks)

Eduqas GCSE Religious Studies Route B - Paper 3


✡️Paper 3: Study of Judaism

  • Duration: 1 hour


  • 🏆Marks: 60 (25% of the total grade)


  • 📌Content: You’ll study the beliefs, teachings and practices of the religion of Judaism.


  • Question types: Short and extended responses, testing knowledge of beliefs and practices of Judaism.

  • A questions - Give the meaning of a key word or concept (2 marks)

  • B questions - Describe a belief, practice or teaching (5 marks)

  • C questions - Explain Jewish responses and viewpoints towards a belief and practice (8 marks)

  • D questions - Respond to a statement by weighing up different views (15 marks)

💡 Top Tips for revising Religious Studies



  1. Practise timing yourself🖊️
    Questions are split into 2, 5, 8, and 15 marks. Practise timing yourself and structuring answers for each type.


  2. Learn key quotes ✝️☪️✡️
    Whether it’s the Bible, Qur’an, or other sacred texts, short and memorable quotes can really strengthen your evaluation answers. Ensure you include the sources of wisdom to pick up those extra marks!


  3. Mind maps & flashcards 🧠
    Great for remembering beliefs, teachings and key concepts. Colour-coding can help too!


  4. Practise past papers ⏱️
    Time yourself under exam conditions - this will help you feel more confident on the day.
