Short Answer Questions: These might ask you to define a term, describe a process or give a brief explanation (e.g. “What is a natural hazard?”).
Data Response Questions: You’ll be asked to interpret maps, graphs, photos or diagrams. These test your ability to apply knowledge to visual sources.
Extended Response Questions: These are longer questions (6 or 9 marks) that require explanation, analysis and sometimes evaluation. You’ll often need to use case studies and include specific examples.
SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar): One of the extended questions will include 3 marks for SPaG - so write clearly and accurately!

- Explain = Say why something happens
- Evaluate = Weigh up pros and cons, then give a judgement
- Compare = Say how things are similar and different
