Encouraging Independence

Autonomy and Responsibility

Ownership: Encourage your child to take ownership of their study environment and habits. Allow them to personalise their study space to make it more inviting and comfortable. This was important to us as parents when we designed our course; we wanted our children to do a realistic test without us having to read out the spelling words or find and print off loads of tests.

Self-Monitoring: Teach your child self-monitoring techniques, such as checking off completed tasks and reflecting on their learning after each study session.

Problem-Solving Skills

Resourcefulness: Encourage your child to seek answers and solutions independently before asking for help. This fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Adaptability: Help your child develop the ability to adapt their study strategies based on what works best for them. Encourage experimentation with different methods and techniques.

Creating a conducive study environment can give your child the optimal conditions for effective learning. This supportive setting will help them build good study habits, stay motivated, and achieve their best possible performance in their SATs.
