COURSE SUMMARY




Radiography and medical technology

Radiography and medical technology is a course that aims at equipping students with the necessary skills to use medical imaging for diagnosis through techniques such as ultrasound, X-ray, and MRI. At least one A-level subject is required, and it may be Physics, Biology or Chemistry, and it is useful to have Mathematics. Laboratory work is involved in the course study, and work experience is part of the coursework. Aspects such as ethical and legal issues, imaging in care pathways, complementary imaging system, and radiotherapy in practice and oncology and cancer studies are covered in the course study. A graduate of this course may work as a clinical photographer, radiographer, and a sonographer.


Social policy

Policy is a course that exposes students to policies and how they work to address issues within a society such as gender inequality, crime and poverty management. To undertake this course, there are no specific requirements, but it is useful to have Politics and Sociology. Some of the aspects covered in the coursework include policy processes, social engagement, comparative politics and policies and ideology into practice and many others. No laboratory work is conducted during the, but students are expected to take part in group discussions. Graduates of this course may work as probation officers, paralegals, social policy advisers, education support officers and as housing officers.


Social work

Social work is a course that equips one with skills that may help them to impact people's lives within the society positively. There are no specific A-level subjects that are required to undertake this course, but it is useful to have Sociology, psychology and BTEC health and social care. Aspects such as social work in society, child and family social work, substance use and misuse, social policy and social work ethics and values are covered. No laboratory work is conducted in the study, but students are actively engaged in group discussions and presentations. A graduate if this course may work as a social worker, guidance officer, probation officer and adoption officer among others.


Sociology

Sociology is a course that involves the study of the behaviors of people within the society. The course helps you get a better understanding of the average person in society. There are no specific A-level subjects for undertaking the course, but it is useful to have Geography, Media Studies, Psychology, and Sociology. Some of the aspects covered in the coursework include urban sociology, sexuality and social control, applied ethics, media and crime and multiculturalism and many others. No laboratory work is involved in the course study, but students are engaged in presentations. A graduate of this course may work as an HR officer, welfare adviser, and social researcher.


Software engineering

Software engineering aims at equipping students with the necessary skills for the development and management of software applications for computers. An A-level in Mathematics is required to undertake this course, and it is useful to have Computing. Computer laboratory work is involved in the coursework since it helps students to develop and improve their programming skills. Various aspects covered in the coursework include system environments, information systems, programming languages paradigms, database and UML modeling, computer algorithms and modeling among others. Graduates of this course may work as software consultants, technical consultant, and site developer and as an IT projects manager.


Speech therapy and audiology

Speech therapy and audiology is a course that focuses on not only people’s hearing but also diagnosing, assessing and providing treatment for communication disorders. To undertake this course, students are required to have A-levels in English Language and Biology, and it is useful to have Chemistry, Modern Foreign Language, Chemistry, and Physics. Aspects such as grammar meaning, communications science and technology, phonetic transcription, perception and cognition and learning are covered in the coursework. Laboratory work and practicals are undertaken during the course study. A graduate of this course may work as an audiologist, speech therapist, medical technician, and as a speech therapist.


Sports science

Sport science is a course that creates insights on how the human body functions during exercise and it is conducted to develop strategies that athletes can use to maximize their potential. An A-level in Biology or another science or Mathematics is required to undertake this course, and it is useful to have Physical Education and Psychology. No laboratory work is conducted, but students are engaged in workshops. Some of the aspects covered in the coursework include the coaching process, applying teaching and coaching, managing community sport, nutrition and physical activity and applied anatomy and biomechanics. Graduates of this course may work as sports officials, sports coaches, and Gym/ leisure managers.


Statistics

Statistics is a course that equips students with the ability to analyze different statistic for use in fields such as medicine, finance, and management. An A-level in Mathematics is required to undertake this course, and it is useful to have Statistics, English, and Economics. Aspects such as linear algebra, decision modeling, complex analysis, calculus, matrix methods, probability and operational research are covered in the coursework. No laboratory work is usually involved in the, but tutorials and presentations are offered. A graduate from this course may work as a management consultant, economic forecaster and as a statistical manager.

Teacher training

Teacher training is a course that equips students with skills that are needed in developing social skills not only among young children but also among adults. An A-level subject is required to undertake this course, and it may be IT, Mathematics, Music, Design and Technology, Modern Language, Religious Studies or Art. It is useful to have CACHE (early years primary teaching/ primary education teacher training). Some aspects covered in the coursework include excellence in English, lifestyles, and societies, learning how to learn, education, values and society among others. No laboratory work is involved in this course, and work experience is not part of the coursework. A graduate from this course may work as a private tutor, learning mentor, primary school teacher and as a special needs teacher.


Theology and religious studies

Theology and religious studies is a course that focuses on discussing religious context while at the same time discussing global politics. There are no specific A-level subjects required to undertake this course, but it is useful to have Philosophy, Religious Studies, English Literature, and History. Aspects such as living religions, symposium in religion and theology, Hinduism, global Christianity, introduction to Islam and women in Islam are covered in the coursework. No laboratory work is involved, but students are engaged in group discussions and presentations. Graduates of this course may work as men of the clergy, community workers, and teachers.


Tourism and travel

Tourismand travel is a course that gives an insight of the principles of hospitality, world travel, and tourism. No specific A-level subjects are required to undertake this course. Some of the aspects that are covered in the coursework include an introduction to tourism, sustainable tourism, and economics of tourism, passenger transport management, special interest tourism, and marketing for tourism among many others. No laboratory work is undertaken during the course study, but students are engaged in fieldworks, group discussion, and
presentations. A graduate of this course may work as a tour manager, tourism officer, events manager and as a hotel manager.  

Veterinary medicine is a course that offers understanding of the structure and functions of healthy animals to equip you with the skills that are needed to address illness in animals. A-levels in Chemistry and Biology are required to undertake the course, and it is useful to have Physics and Mathematics. Laboratory work is involved in the, and it aims to broaden students' knowledge of the discipline. Aspects of animal disease, animal health science, veterinary practical techniques, animal health handling and clinical management are covered in the coursework. A graduate of this course can work as a research veterinarian, veterinary surgeon, and veterinary investigation officer.


Zoology

Zoology is a course that deals with the study of animals and their behavior within a habitat. Chemistry and Biology are the A-level subjects that are required to undertake this course, and it is useful to have Psychology, Physics, and Mathematics. Laboratory work and practicals are undertaken during the course study. Aspects of animal behavior, diversity in life, plant science, science and success, the animal kingdom, gene and cellular control are some of the aspects that are covered in the coursework. Graduates of this course may work as animal welfare officers, environmental consultants, and nature reserve wardens and as zoological field surveyors.
